TRAINED MEDICATION AIDE
Our Trained Medication Aide course are for certified nursing assistants that are looking to advance their career as TMA/CNA.
Program Description
Our Trained Medication Aide course is 7 weeks long, with a laboratory and clinical component at nursing communities located in Minnesota under the supervision of experienced registered nurses (RNs).
Students will have the option to select from three schedule options: Weekday Evening, Weekend, or Hybrid.
The Hybrid schedule will be a mix of online lectures, in-person lab sessions, and in-person clinical rotations in nursing communities. The online portion of this program schedule will be done via the CANVAS Learning Management System.
Upon completion of the Trained Medication Aide course, students are awarded a Certificate of Completion. There is no official Minnesota Medication Aide State exam after completing the course.
Passing the course makes you a Trained Medication Aide in the state of Minnesota.

CNA & CPR/BLS Certifications Are Required
An active CNA and a current CPR/BLS certification for healthcare professionals from the American Heart Association (AHA) is required. If you are not a CNA or CPR/BLS certified, you can take our Nurse Aide program or CPR/BLS course to satisfy these requirements.
CPR/BLS Certifications must be from American Heart Association (AHA). Certifications from other providers will not be accepted.

Orientation:
Hybrid Medication Aide applicants are required to attend a mandatory orientation on campus Wednesday before the course start date from 2:00 – 3:00 p.m.
Orientation for Hybrid students will cover a variety of information such as the course schedule, expectations, requirements, etc. The required Reading Assessment will be taken during this time as well. Students that miss orientation will be required to switch to a later program start date.
General Admission Requirements
Along with the specific prerequisites stated in the previous section, prospective applicants must submit or meet each of the requirements listed below, and copies of required documents must be submitted to the admissions office before the first day of class. Enrollments are conditional until all fees, paperwork, and admission requirements are completed.
- Must be at least 18 years old
- Valid State ID
- Valid SSN Card
- CPR/BLS Certification from the American Heart Association (AHA)
- Negative Tuberculosis (TB) Test Result
- Plain Black Scrub Set and White Long-Sleeve Undershirt
Tuition & Fees
The Medication Aide program is $679.00 which includes the cost of tuition and lab supplies. There is an additional $50.00 non-refundable registration fee.
Tuition and fees are due in full before the first day of class unless the student has been approved for funding by a third-party sponsor or has been approved for a tuition payment plan.

Frequently Asked Questions
Yes. Receiving a Certificate of Completion at the end of this course qualifies you as a Trained Medication Aide, or TMA in the state of Minnesota.
No, it does not expire. You will be required to keep your CNA credentials active to continue working as a TMA.
Yes, the state of Minnesota requires that you have completed a state approved Nursing assistant course and successfully passed the state exam to get on the MN nurse aide registry in order to take this class. No exceptions. This is a requirement for the state of Minnesota.
