OVERVIEW

Electrocardiography (EKG) technicians are vital members of any healthcare team. If you want to join the booming healthcare industry as an EKG tech, this in-depth course will train you to apply, monitor, and measure electrocardiography tests in a flexible, online learning environment. You will also learn key subjects needed to earn a nationally recognized EKG technician certification, such as measuring basic vital signs, performing rapid response procedures, operating an EKG machine, and identifying rhythms. By course completion, you will be prepared to take and pass the Certified EKG Technician Specialist (CETS) certification exam, offered by American Education Certification Association and the Certified EKG Technician (CET), provided by the National Healthcareer Association.

This course offers enrollment with a voucher for either the Certified EKG Technician Specialist (CETS) certification exam or the Certified EKG Technician (CET) certification exam. The voucher is prepaid access to sit for the certifying exam upon eligibility. However, please research your state’s requirements before enrollment to ensure this course is the right fit for you.

Prerequisites:

To take this online course, you should have one of the following: High School Diploma, GED or equivalent, entrance test, or previous healthcare experience. To qualify for the certification exam, a High School Diploma or equivalent is required. Please check with your state for any specific requirements they might have before registering.

Jacqueline Garcia holds an Instructor Certification to teach EKG Technician Program. Ms. Garcia has served as a subject matter expert for the EKG textbook. She has also developed curriculums for EKG technician program for career schools and is actively involved in teaching EKG at several career schools. She is an active member of AECA as an EKG Technician.

Can I register for a course if I am an international student?

Yes, ed2go courses are completely online. However, keep in mind that not all certifying bodies or industry-specific certifications are recognized internationally. Please review your country’s regulations prior to enrolling in courses that prepare for certification.

Does this course prepare for a certification?

Yes, upon successful completion of the course, you will have the foundational knowledge required for national certification. You may choose between two certification paths:

  1. You may sit for AECA’s Certified EKG Technician Specialist (CETS) certification exam to earn a provisional certification. You will be able to assist other EKG techs, doctors, nurses, and various healthcare professionals. You will have six months to complete the clinical skills portion of EKG, an externship as an EKG technician, and administering at least 15 live EKGs, to convert to full certification. Completing clinical during the provisional period will put you on the path to becoming a fully certified EKG technician, so you can perform essential duties as delegated at your healthcare facility.
  2. You will also qualify for the National Healthcareer Association (NHA) full certification, Certified EKG Technician (CET), and may utilize the included Externship Starter Kit to achieve the clinical requirements (10 EKGs on live humans).

Note:It is the responsibility of each student to obtain the Live EKG experience and ed2go is not responsible for providing or assisting with the required clinical.

This course is open enrollment, so you can register and start the course as soon as you are ready. Access to your course can take 24-48 business hours.

How long does it take to complete this course?

This course is self-paced and open enrollment, so you can start when you want and finish at your own pace. When you register, you’ll receive six (6) months to complete the course.

What if I don’t have enough time to complete my course within the time frame provided?

The time allotted for course completion has been calculated based on the number of course hours. However, if you are unable to complete the course, contact the student advising team to see what options you may have available to work out a suitable completion date. Please note that an extension fee may be charged.

What kind of support will I receive?

The course instructor will be available by email to answer any questions and provide feedback on your performance. Occasionally, your course may be supported by a team of industry experts. You will also receive support from the student advising team.

What happens when I complete the course?

Upon successful completion of the course, you will be awarded a Certificate of Completion.

Am I guaranteed a job?

This course will provide you with the skills you need to obtain an entry-level position in most cases. Potential students should always do research on the job market in their area before registering.

Can I get financial assistance?

This course is non-credit, so it does not qualify for federal aid, FAFSA and Pell Grant. In some states, vocational rehab or workforce development boards will pay for qualified students to take our courses. Additionally, some students may qualify for financial assistance when they enroll, if they meet certain requirements.
